Secrets of a Successful Career Change
29 September 2008
I’m often asked how to switch from one field to another. The truth is that making a career change is a little harder than pursuing a job doing eactly what you do now, but not impossible by a long stretch.
I think the key is to pursue something you have some qualification for. Don’t try to become an airline pilot if you’re trained as a machinist Not without going back to school. No, to make a successful career change you need to find something you have to sell and focus on that. If you’re moving into a new field, stay in the same industry. If you want to change industries, do it by staying in the same field. Once you’ve transitioned to the new industry, you’ll be able to make the next switch to a new field.
