Hair Bands and Glam Metal

There is no doubt that hair bands and glam metal added a burst of excitement and energy to the music scene in the late seventies to the eighties.  Often classified under the pop-metal genre tag, hair bands are identified musically for their heavy distorted power riffs, catchy hooks, and hard-hitting drums.  Of course, long and highly teased hair, long night partying exploits, and rather loud clothing are other aspects one might encounter with a hair band.

The first wave of hair bands came about in the eighties, spawned by the contributions of such bands as Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ratt, Twisted Sister, and Poison.  They became the cover boys for MTV and various hard rock tabloids, and their late-night exploits have become legendary in the annals of rock history.  The music is often associated with youth and independence, and of course, the right to rock!
