People who come to the small city of Alma might not realize it at first, but they are standing in the Spinach Capital of the World. Once one begins to look around the town, he or she will quickly see why. Located above Lake Alma are a number of water towers painted green, and one of them is painted to resemble a giant can of spinach, complete with the poster boy for Spinach – Popeye! The World’s Largest Spinach Can!The love of the leafy green vegetable goes beyond just painting the water towers, however. In the center of town, you will find Popeye Park, an area dedicated to the spinach-eating sailor who is “tough to the finish.” The statue is made of bronze and sits atop a beautiful fountain. You will find benches in the park, where you can sit and relax before moving on to see the original statue that once represented the town. You can find this Popeye statue a store called Kustom Kaps. Alma is a friendly town that has a lot of personality, and anyone who is passing through the area should make it a point to stop by.
