Vitamin D: Sunlight Given.

Before I began studying nutrition at the post secondary level, my knowledge and understanding of vitamins and minerals was limited at best.

Sure, I could tell you the basics of what certain nutritional supplements were used for, i.e. vitamin C for healthy teeth and gums, vitamin A for our eyes, and vitamin E for the immune system.

But knowing each and every different vitamin and mineral was not yet in my book of head knowledge.

For example, Vitamin D. — I knew it worked alongside calcium in the development of strong bones, but I had no idea we could get our complete daily allowance from just 2-3 exposures of direct sunlight per week.

Very cool!
