I want a new look on my outside patio

I have a patio on the back of my house that is currently just a big slab of concrete. Most of the time i’m perfectly satisfied with this, but lately i’ve wanted to spice it up a bit. I’ve seen home improvement shows that show you how to add texture to your outdoor flooring surfaces. I think this is the direction that i want to go. If anyone out there has any advice for me before i begin this process I would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully by the end of spring I will have the surface that i am looking for and will be satisfied once again.
