Persecution in the Mormon CHurch
According to mormon history, the early Latter-day Saints were treated very badly. Mobs persecuted the Mormons and continually raided their cities. After much persecution from their neighbors Brigham Young decided they should leave Nauvoo and move to an area outside the boundaries of the United States, Salt Lake Valley, which later became Salt Lake City, Utah. Mormon history indicates that the journey from Nauvoo, Illinois to Salt Lake Valley was over 2000 km long. The Journey from Winter Quarters to the Salt Lake Valley took four months to complete due to being unprepared, flooding, excessive rain and lack of experience.
