Why leaving products on standby is bad

Most consumer electronics products have a stand by mode as well as an on / off button. We have traditionally used the stand by mode as a way of turning off our products. This is convenient in the form of a TV as it has meant that we can just turn it on and off with the remote. What has been little known until now is that leaving our products on stand by mode can actually use almost the same amount of energy as having the item turned on. This can result in us paying more than we need to be for our electricity bills and it is also not eco friendly as we are adding to the CO2 leaking into the atmosphere.
